There are beaches you plan around, and beaches you simply fall into. Cavalière is the second kind. A wide, generous crescent of golden sand curving along the D559 east of Le Lavandou, it catches the morning light like a stage — and by midday, the water has settled into that impossible shade of turquoise that photographs never quite capture.

At a kilometre long, Cavalière has room to breathe. Families stake out the shallows, paddleboarders glide past the swimming zone, and the odd beach café sends espresso aromas drifting across the sand. It's polished without being precious — the kind of place where a linen shirt and bare feet feel equally appropriate.

Where the Sea Gets Serious About Its Colour

The seabed here slopes gently, which means the water stays shallow and warm for a good stretch — ideal for children and anyone who prefers to wade before committing to a swim. On calm days, visibility is striking: you can watch schools of small fish scatter beneath your feet.

Beyond the swimming zone, SUP boards and the occasional kayak dot the bay. Volleyball nets appear in summer, though nobody seems to keep score. That's the Cavalière tempo: activity without urgency.

A Morning Ritual, an Afternoon Drift

Arrive early and you'll have the beach nearly to yourself — just the sound of wavelets and the odd jogger on the coastal path. By mid-morning, the cafés open their terraces and the scent of grilled fish begins to compete with the salt air. Late afternoon brings the best light: low, honeyed, and impossibly flattering.

On Mondays, the weekly market sets up nearby in Cavalière village — a perfect excuse to stock up on olives, charcuterie and a bottle of rosé before heading back to the sand.

Practical Information

Getting there: Cavalière lies about 5 km east of Le Lavandou on the D559 coastal road. A paid public car park on Avenue du Cap Nègre offers around 200 spaces. Street parking is possible but fills quickly in summer.

Facilities: Seasonal lifeguards, showers, restrooms, and several beach cafés with terrace seating. Deckchair and parasol rental available in high season.

Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon for quieter sands and golden light. The Monday market adds a nice rhythm to a beach day.

Budget: Parking from ~€5–8/day in summer. Beach cafés from ~€10 for a light lunch.

Mauricette's Tip

Treat Cavalière like your Riviera backyard: park, walk, swim, sip, repeat. Come for the morning calm, stay for the café terrace at golden hour — and don't forget to swing by the Monday market for picnic provisions.

Looking for a sun-soaked base to explore the Var coast? Villa Mauricette puts you 45 minutes from Cavalière — and a world away from the everyday.
